Full-time Assistant Recreation Director


This position was created to assist in the management or manage and direct Recreation staff in the day-to-day operations of recreational activities: recreational programming, and meeting the needs of our students consistent with the standards set forth in SHS policies, procedures, philosophies and mission. Reports to Recreation Director and Superintendent.


Responsibilites:

Assist in the supervision of Recreation staff (approximately 14) including hiring, scheduling, monitoring of performance, support, disciplinary action, and any and all other aspects of supervision.

Overall supervision of 250+students and assist staff with tending to needs of students, including personal care needs (toileting), behavior support, etc.

Planning, training, leading, supervising and participating in exciting and engaging activities for recreational periods geared toward enriching the lives of students both on campus and off campus, i.e., church, holiday events, etc.

Prepare activity areas before each recreation segment and take inventory of equipment and supplies on a regular basis.

Work with Superintendent and other School Program staff to assist with needs, including performing as a substitute teacher, preparing for assemblies, decorating for holidays and occasions, attending

trips, etc.

Timely and accurate documentation of reportable incidents, scheduling, progress reports, timesheets.

Communicate effectively with and assist families when necessary.

Communicate effectively with and assist staff both inside and outside School Program Department. Will assist in the dissemination of information to need-to-know individuals when necessary.

Driving duties when necessary.


Required: Energetic, creative and positive attitude with staff and students.

Strong programming skills.

Flexible – Willing and able to adapt quickly to changes.

Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

Familiar with scheduling and supervising.

Evening, weekend and holiday hours.

Physical activity, including but not limited to walking and/or standing for long periods of time.

Must be at least 21 years of age, have an active driver’s license and a good driving record.


Desired: College degree in Recreation, Special Education, Therapeutic Recreation (CTRS preferred)

Experience in recreational programming/leading activities.

Experience, education or knowledge of individuals with various intellectual disabilities.
